Strength training for weight loss
Strength training supports fat loss by giving your body a reason to keep its muscle while you eat a little less. Losing weight without it tends to cost muscle as well as fat, which is why a programme organised around strength usually looks better at the end than one organised around a scale. The NHS recommends strengthening activity on at least 2 days a week alongside 150 minutes of moderate activity, and a fat-loss week is built on the same two parts.
Strength training for fat loss: what a session looks like
A fat-loss session is a strength session: four to six compound lifts, loaded progressively, with shorter rests and perhaps a short conditioning finisher at the end. What changes across the week is daily movement, such as walking, and the habits around food and sleep that a trainer can help you keep, within their scope.
